Overview

What Is E-commerce Tracking?

E-commerce tracking records every step of the shopping journey: which products people view, what they add to cart, where they drop off in checkout and what they finally buy.

I implement a clean e-commerce dataLayer and send the same events to GA4, Google Ads, Meta and other platforms, with transaction IDs and values that match your store’s real orders.

Why It Matters

Why Accurate E-commerce Tracking Is Essential

If purchases are missing, duplicated or recorded without value, every ROAS number you see is wrong. You may cut campaigns that are profitable or scale ones that are not.

Accurate e-commerce tracking shows your true revenue by channel, product and campaign, and gives ad platforms the purchase data they need to optimize for buyers.

    FAQ

    Frequently Asked Questions

    1. Why does GA4 revenue not match my store?

Common causes are missing purchases, duplicate purchases on page reloads, missing currency and payment gateway redirects. I find and fix each one.

    2. Can you track Shopify checkout?

Yes. I use Shopify customer events and, when needed, server-side tracking for complete checkout data.

    3. Do you track refunds?

Yes. Refunds can be sent to GA4 so your revenue reports stay accurate.

    4. Which platforms get the data?

Usually GA4, Google Ads and Meta. TikTok, Pinterest and others can be added from the same dataLayer.

    5. Do I need a developer?

For Shopify and WooCommerce usually not. For custom stores I write a dataLayer specification for your developer.

    6. How do you test it?

I place test orders, check every event in GTM preview and GA4 DebugView, and compare results with your real orders.
